Ubuntu Older Versions
Oct 28, 2020 The procedure to delete all unused old kernels on Ubuntu Linux version 18.04 and 20.04 LTS is as follows: First, boot into a new kernel List all other older kernel using the dpkg command Note down system disk space usage by running the df -H command. These older Ubuntu releases are now in Extended Maintenance (ESM): Ubuntu 14.04.6 LTS (Trusty Tahr) › Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS (Precise Pangolin) › We are happy to provide hosting for the following projects via the cdimage server. While they are not commercially supported by Canonical, they receive full support from their communities. I want to create VMs of old versions of Ubuntu, such as 10.10, 8.04, 4.10 and more. But how do I download old versions of Ubuntu? My main idea is The Wayback Machine.
Recently I installed Ubuntu Server 6.06 (Dapper) on an old Sun Blade 100 which has a SPARC processor. The installation on a Sun Blade 100 has its own quirks, but after getting it up and running I of course wanted to make sure it had the latest software versions and security updates that it could support.
Problem
After support for an old Ubuntu releases has been dropped the folks at Canonical remove the repositories from their main repository servers such as archive.ubuntu.com
and security.ubuntu.com
. So, when you run sudo apt-get update
you are met with a list of errors telling you that the your configured repositories were not found.
Oct 31, 2018 I won't use old versions, I'd just thought I'd ask what would happen If I were to use older versions. I still have 18.10 & I plan to upgrade to 19.04 Disco Dingo once it's released. Setup: Windowsfx 10.6 Professional LTS (Linux Mint 20 Focal Fossa Built in)/Linux Security/ Linux 5.4.#. After each version of Ubuntu has reached its end-of-life time, its repositories are removed from the main Ubuntu servers and consequently the mirrors. Older versions of Ubuntu repositories and releases can be found on the old Ubuntu releases website. Debian version history; Fedora version history; OpenSUSE version history.
Solution
To get back on the repository train, edit your /etc/apt/sources.list
and replace all instances of archive.ubuntu.com
and security.ubuntu.com
with the very fitting old-releases.ubuntu.com
. After that, run sudo apt-get update
and watch the repository indexes roll in!
Here is an example of an updated /etc/apt/sources.list
for Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper):
That’s it for today, I hope this has helped you get the software you need onto an old Ubuntu installation.
